At the end of the Thirties the brothers Orazio and Fortunato set up a large workshop in the residential centre of Galatina; a pioneering task in a centre, at the time, exclusively agricultural. Supplied with talent and a profound knowledge of materials and techniques, they endeavour to resolve the endless problems encountered by their production structure, suffering from a lack of supplies of spare parts and qualified repairers.
In the Fifties, the effective combined action of creativity and consummate skill, gives life to a baker’s machine, that adapts well to the production needs of every area. The result: a widespread network throughout the region. This is then followed by a machine for traditional baked products.
In the Sixties, their versatility propels them into different areas beyond the food sector and the floor-polishing machine now arrives on the scene, also widespread in Germany.
Urgent production needs and the firm’s peripheral location call for the construction of a small foundry in its workshops. The Seventies mark the move from tradesman’s workshop to factory at an industrial scale. Industrial sheds are constructed in the factory area and these give life to foundry operations specialising in the hydraulics sector. Half way through the decade, Orazio passes away and his sons Salvatore and Francesco enter the firm: the first an engineer, the second a lawyer. With their uncle Fortunato they design and construct the first automated system which brings the Fonderie up to a 150 quintals/day capacity.
The Eighties see the business mature and the final shift over to Quality production:  bronze, aluminium and brass are abandoned and the foundry operates solely with cast iron.
Business quality certification was introduced in 1994 when Officine e Fonderie De Riccardis adopted the UNI ISO 9000 standard. In 2003 it adapted to Vision 2000, whilst in 2004 the ISO 14001 environment certification.
Today, Officine e Fonderie De Riccardis can boast the following: company-owned plants installed in covered premises of around 9,500 sq.m. and a total of 110 thousand sq.m.;  a work force of ninety made up of technical and office staff; daily output of 1,400 quintals; customers in the main national production areas. The company is amongst the first ten producers in Italy, in terms of quantity and quality
